Understand the physical structure, molecular interactions, physiological mechanisms, development and evolution of all the living organisms who make up our biological world. Despite the complexity of the science, certain unifying concepts consolidate it into a single, coherent field. This program frames courses that give our students cutting-edge approaches and upper-level research experience taught by experts in the region.
- Active Learning Approaches: Group-, project-, and team-based learning approaches are taken in the majority of courses offered in the Biology program. These highly interactive classes mean students will apply fundamental concepts and develop skills required for successful careers in Biological and Biomedical/Health sciences. The Carver Molecular Biology Teaching Lab gives our student researchers unparalleled lab experience.
- Learn from Research Scientists: The Biology curriculum design scaffolds courses and culminates in upper-level research-based courses taught by experts. This exposes students to cutting-edge approaches such as cellular/molecular approaches to immunomodulation. Develop invaluable research skills side-by-side with knowledgeable and experienced faculty members, in their respective fields, to earn the opportunity to present findings at conferences and forums across the U.S.
- Conduct Original Research: Develop invaluable research skills in the analysis of the effects of prairie turnip extracts on anti-microbial and anti-inflammation using molecular biological tools. The practical experience is a great resumé booster, especially for graduate school.
