Briar Cliff University Announces Executive Cabinet

Dr. Patrick Jacobson-Schulte, Interim President announces executive cabinet promotions and additions, aimed at supporting planned university growth initiatives and support needs.

 Ann Oatman was promoted to Interim Vice President of Finance. Oatman joined Briar Cliff as Controller in 2021 and has been a critical leader in budget management, forecasting, and planning. She leads finance, human resources, and IT services. 

Oatman has over 27 years of finance experience, most recently serving as the Controller for Rosecrance Jackson Centers, a Recruiter/Account Manager for Cariant Health Partners, and a Controller for University of Nebraska Omaha. She has a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration. 

Suzie Fischer was promoted to Vice President of University Relations. Fischer joined Briar Cliff as the Director of Marketing and Business Development in 2019 and most recently served as the Assistant Vice President of Marketing and Communications. Fischer will continue to lead the efforts of advertising, communications, community and public relations, marketing, print, and mail services.

Prior to joining Briar Cliff, she served as Marketing Manager at UnityPoint Health – St. Luke’s and as a Marketing Specialist at Northwest Bank/First National Bank. She has a Bachelor of Arts degree from Morningside University and is pursuing her Master of Arts degree.

Michelle Boe, JD, has joined Briar Cliff University as Vice President of University Advancement/University General Counsel. Boe will lead the University of Advancement team and will focus on major gifts, annual fund, scholarships, endowment, project campaigns, grants, and alumni relations.

Boe most recently served at the University of Minnesota Foundation as a Senior Development officer for Medicine and Health. Prior to her most recent appointment, she also served as an Executive Director of Foundation and Community Relations for a community college and as an Associate Attorney for Arthur, Chapman, Kettering, Smetak, & Pikala. Since 2020, Michelle has served as Adjunct Faculty for the Paralegal Program at Inver Hills Community College. She received a Bachelor of Arts from the University of Minnesota and her Juris Doctor from William Mitchell College of Law in St. Paul, Minnesota. 

Under the leadership of Dr. Jacobson-Schulte, Oatman, Fischer, and Boe join the Briar Cliff University executive cabinet alongside Sister Dr. Pat Doody, Vice President of Mission and Leadership; Dr. Todd Knealing, Vice President for Academic and Student Affairs; Nic Scandrett, Vice President of Athletics and Operations; and Matt Thomsen, Vice President of Enrollment Management.
