Briar Cliff University Hosts Fourth Annual Future Educators Summit

October 3, 2023

Briar Cliff University hosted it’s fourth annual Future Educators Summit, sponsored by the Briar Cliff Education Department. Over 85 students from Bishop Heelan, Lawton-Bronson, Dakota Valley, Elk Point-Jefferson, Bishop Garrigan, and Cherokee High School were in attendance.

“Educators are extremely important in the development of children,” said Theresa Engle, Education Department Chair at Briar Cliff University. “They work with parents to guide their students to not only learn important academic content but also prepare them for life.”

Briar Cliff's Education Majors benefit from extensive teaching experiences in local classrooms, exceeding the state of Iowa's requirements. Students have the unique opportunity to start teaching during their first year, under the supervision of dedicated faculty members at Briar Cliff.

“Our small class sizes allow students and professors to get to know each other, which promotes supportive relationships when students may need more assistance and when there are successes to celebrate,” said Engle. “We have many endorsement options for our students, they can teach in the areas they are most passionate about.”

The keynote speaker for the event was Krystal Colbert, Iowa’s Teacher of the Year.
