Briar Cliff Hosts 2nd Annual GPAC Student Government Summit

Briar Cliff Student Government is hosting the second annual Great Plains Athletic Conference Student Government Summit, “Make Every Connection Matter” February 24 on Briar Cliff’s campus.

Representatives from Briar Cliff University, Morningside University, Doane University, Hastings College, and Northwestern College will be in attendance. Student leaders will participate in interactive breakout sessions, a leadership workshop, and keynote address from John Flanery, President of Bishop Heelan Catholic Schools in Sioux City.

BCU alumnus and former Student Government Vice President, Flanery currently oversees pre-k through 8th grade centers and Bishop Heelan Catholic High School. After receiving his Bachelors of Music Education from Briar Cliff, his went on to earn his Masters and Doctor of Musical Arts in Choral Conducting from the University of Kentucky. Previous positions include Director of Choral Activities at New Mexico State University and Associate Choral Director at the University of Southern Mississippi. His choirs have been selected to perform at state and regional conferences as well as touring extensively regionally, nationally and internationally.

Briar Cliff Student Government is the voice and political force for Briar Cliff’s student body. Its major function is to keep an open line of communication between students, faculty, and administrators.
