SIOUX CITY, Iowa – The Department of Nursing at Briar Cliff University revealed its newest nursing program, the Master of Science in Nursing: Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner, at a press conference on June 26 on Briar Cliff’s campus.
The Master of Science in Nursing: Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner program focuses on the care of individuals across the lifespan with psychiatric mental health conditions. Beginning in fall 2019, the program includes specialty courses in neuroscience of pharmacology, therapeutic modalities and psychiatric and behavioral health care of children, adolescents, adults and older individuals to prepare students to become advanced practice nurses and mental health care providers.
“The need for psychiatric mental health nurse practitioners has never been greater, and Briar Cliff is proud to provide a program that will not only open the door to new educational and professional opportunities for nurses, but that will also help alleviate the shortage of mental health care practitioners in our own community,” says Briar Cliff President Rachelle Karstens.
