The Spirt of St. Francis Award: Deidre Engel

The Spirit of St. Francis Award is an award honoring individuals who exemplify the Franciscan spirit of service and concern for others through contributions to society and a value-centered professional and/or family life. The 2023 recipient of the Spirit of St. Francis Award is Deidre Engel, Registrar at Briar Cliff University.  

 

Engel has exemplified the spirit of service and concern for others throughout her 26 years of service to Briar Cliff University – and counting. She is also a 2000 Briar Cliff alumna, with a degree in business administration and a graduate management certificate. As an employee, she has served on countless committees and was honored by her colleagues with the 2007 Distinguished Administrator Award and the 2009 Paul & Francis Duff Pursuit of Excellence Award. All five of her children attended Briar Cliff with four graduating from Briar Cliff.

 

“Deidre is a key reason why Commencement events run so smoothly,” said Dr. Todd Knealing, Provost/Vice President of Academic and Student Affairs. “She tirelessly dedicates her time and passion to ensure Briar Cliff University and our students are successful. Like us all, she wants to see and support our students so they can walk across the stage.”

 

Engle is someone you can go to for a friendly smile, great advice, and outstanding work. She embodies Franciscan values and is a true example of exceptional service.

 

“Often, Deidre is the last one to leave and one of the first ones on campus – including during inclement weather. She, herself, has weathered so much change in the higher education landscape during her time at Briar Cliff, but she has remained constant,” said Knealing.
