Biography

Dr. Boland teaches European and World history classes at Briar Cliff University, specializing in European medieval history, the Iberian Peninsula, and the Middle East.

Her doctoral research focused on the thirteenth-century Spanish Dominicans, particularly the scholastic contributions of Barcelonan friar Ramon Martí. To conduct this research, she traveled abroad to work in the libraries and archives in Madrid and Barcelona, funded by the Saint Louis University Matthews Fund for International Travel, and a Hispanex Program grant from the Spanish government.

Her current research interests include Christian, Muslim, and Jewish relations; the Mediterranean world; medieval universities; and historical linguistics. She recently contributed a chapter to The Mendicants in the Urban Mediterranean on two Dominican polemical treatises, and co-authored an article on Dominican language-learning and missionary efforts published in Al-Masāq: Journal of the Medieval Mediterranean.

Dr. Boland is also the faculty sponsor for two Briar Cliff Student Organizations – the History Club and the Theatre Club.
