Reading is important throughout a person's life, which is why we at Briar Cliff put such an emphasis on its importance in and out of the classroom. Teachers with a reading endorsement have a deeper understanding of how a diverse range of students learn to read. They are experts in literacy instruction and better prepared to address the needs of struggling readers and those with learning disabilities.

• Being marketable: Many schools prefer teacher applicants who have a reading endorsement. You can also obtain a 5-8 middle school, special education and/or coaching endorsements. These endorsements supplement an elementary education major, so you'll be qualified to teach more subject areas and more grade levels. 

The K-8 reading endorsement is required for Elementary Education majors at Briar Cliff.
