Student Blog: 10 Things To Do Around Sioux City Over Fall Break

Happy Fall Break Chargers! In case you weren't taking this time to do your homework (as I'm sure you all are), check out and stop by these cool events happening all around Sioux City!

1. Check out all the Fall festivities Scarecrow Farm has going on!

Pick a pumpkin to take home and carve, go on a hay rack ride with your ~boo~, get lost in the five-acre corn maze, there’s so much! Located at 1592 Charles Ave. just outside Sioux City in Lawton, IA.

2. Cheer on Charger football at Memorial Stadium this weekend!

Briar Cliff plays cross town rival Morningside on October 12th at 1 p.m. There will also be a tailgate sponsored by Sioux City GO that will be accepting free will donations for BCU’s Go Gold fundraiser for honorary Cheer and Dance team member Breanna Svoboda and her family.

3. What better way to learn more about your college town surroundings than by checking out the Sioux City Public Museum?

They feature large, colorful exhibits, interactive displays, and a cool photo opportunity right as you walk in the door. Students can discover the “Spirit of Sioux City” through a lively 12-minute orientation film in the ornate “Corn Palace Theatre.” Located downtown, and admission is free!

4. While you're there, stop by The Sioux City Art Center too!

They have more than 1,000 artworks in their permanent collection with many different mediums and styles. Many artists that have work displayed here have been nationally and internationally recognized.

5. Visit “Cone-Acopia” on October 13th, from 9 am to 3 pm.

They will have activities, music, a firepit, life-size boards games, rock painting from Siouxland Rocks, coffee tasting from Jumpy Monkey Coffee, and pumpkin decorating for $2 with the Pickled Palette! Other activities include a “Monster Dash” 5k and 1k fun run…if you run for fun.

6. The Sioux City Farmers Market on October 12th, from 8 am to 1 pm

Grab a "Black Tie Mocha" from Coffee and Nosh, pick up some Loess Hills honey, check out the fresh produce from Gilkersons Garden, and so much more! It's a chill way to get your steps in and get to know the local Sioux City vendors. Check it out on October 12th from 8 am - 1 pm!

7. Have a sweet tooth?

Check out Palmer candy, where you can see how candy is made, visit the museum, and try samples of any candy you’re wanting to buy. Hands down the best candy store around.

8. Get your work out on!

BCU students get in FREE to the 4 Seasons Health Club! There is so much more to do than just work out though. Whether you want to swim, play basketball, volleyball, racquetball, tanning, or hang with your friends in their café. There is a little something for everyone here.

9. The Southern Hills Mall is a great place to hang out for the day

You can see a movie in the recliner seats then go check out the arcade. Maybe play a game of giant tic-tac-toe and go shop around!

10. Grab a jacket and go for a nature walk at Bacon Creek

This is a beautiful park with a path wrapping around the lake. You may also come across some pups playing around the dog park.

After checking all these events out, be sure to grab some blankets, a cup of hot coco and snuggle up to your TV to watch Hocus Pocus on repeat.
