Briar Cliff professor honored for contributions to child, family services

Sioux City, IowaHeidi Kammer-Hodge, assistant professor of social work at Briar Cliff University and executive director with Southwest Iowa Family Access Center, is this year’s recipient of the Sue Pitts-Fisher Award from the Coalition for Family and Children’s Services in Iowa.

The Sue Pitts-Fisher Award honors a professional that has provided significant contributions in direct service to the child welfare and juvenile justice field. The honoree must show outstanding achievement in leadership and mentorship and advance the practice of child and family services through public and private partnerships.

Kammer-Hodge has over 20 years of experience in addiction, mental health and family services. In addition to serving on Briar Cliff’s faculty and her role with the Southwest Iowa Family Access Center, Kammer-Hodge leads Consulting by Design LLC, a firm specializing in behavioral health consultation, planning and fund development services. She has also served in previous roles with Jackson Recovery Centers in Sioux City and with RESOURCE in Minneapolis.

Kammer-Hodge earned a bachelor’s degree in social work from the University of South Dakota and a master’s degree in social work from Augsburg University. She is an alumna of the 2010 Minnesota Council of Nonprofits Leadership Institute and was a President’s Award recipient from the Minnesota Association of Resources for Recovery and Chemical Health.

Kammer-Hodge will officially be recognized with the Sue Pitts-Fisher Award during the Coalition for Family and Children’s Services in Iowa’s annual legislative and member reception in Des Moines in early March.
