Dr. Andrew Shim, Briar Cliff Professor, Named Director of the Year at the 39th Annual NSCA National Conference

Dr. Andrew Shim, professor and graduate program director of kinesiology and human performance at Briar Cliff University, receives Director of the Year award at the 39th NSCA National Conference.

Health and fitness professionals from across the world converged at the NSCA’s National Conference on July 6, 2016 in New Orleans, LA to discover cutting-edge research and practical applications in strength and conditioning. One of the many exciting events held during the conference was the Award Ceremonies where the distinctive honor of State/Provincial Director of the Year was bestowed to Dr. Andrew Shim, professor and graduate program director of kinesiology and human performance at Briar Cliff University.  

Andrew Shim, EdD, CSCS, *D, has been teaching Exercise Science courses in Higher Education for more than 20 years. He has extensively published in Sport Performance, Educational Theories, and Physical Therapy peer-reviewed international journals during that time. Besides being nominated several times for teaching awards, he has earned several research awards at two different universities and from one sports medicine organization. He is certified with the American College of Sports Medicine as a Certified Exercise Physiologist, the National Strength & Conditioning Association as a certified Strength & Conditioning Specialist with Distinction, and the Dr. Kenneth Cooper’s Institute of Aerobic Research as an Exercise Specialist.

Dr. Shim has served on various editorial boards, been a Research Committee Member on the American Association of Physical Activity and Recreation Fitness and Wellness Council, the Editor in Chief for the Journal of the Behavioral and Social Sciences, and the Provincial State Director of North Dakota's National Strength & Conditioning Association. Recently, he published a textbook titled, “Exploring the Field of Kinesiology in the 21st Century."

In total, twelve awards were presented.  “Congratulations to all the award winners for these well-deserved awards,” said NSCA Executive Director Michael Massik. “Each of these individuals have changed many lives and exemplify what it is to be an NSCA professional. We are proud to have them as members.”

Headquartered in Colorado Springs, Colorado, the NSCA serves as a valuable resource for its members, the fitness industry, general public, and the media. The association provides a wide variety of resources and opportunities designed to strengthen, build, advance and unify.
