For nearly a century, we have been preparing ethical leaders who have gone on to influence every aspect of society. Today, Briar Cliff University celebrated their 90th Anniversary.
In 1929, only briar patches covered a 175-foot hill located on the western outskirts of Sioux City, Iowa. Mother Mary Dominica Wieneke and Reverend Edmond Heelan of the Diocese of Sioux City had a vision. Led by these visionaries, Briar Cliff’s 12 foundresses from the Sisters of Saint Francis worked with members of the business community to raise capital in support the establishment of a local, Catholic college in Sioux City. On Sept. 18, 1930, Briar Cliff College was dedicated.
Briar Cliff University has been preparing to celebrate this exciting milestone for the past couple of months. Their Board of Trustees offered the 90th Anniversary Challenge to their alumni, donors, and employees giving an uncapped dollar for dollar match for all gifts given or pledged. Their social media featured recaps showcasing 90 years of programs, students, athletic accomplishments, and campus life. And then today, both the Cliff Shop and Charged offered unique specials to students on campus.
“Our legacy of successful graduates are out there making a difference in every industry. We have enjoyed celebrating the all our University’s amazing accomplishment over the past 90 years. We are looking forward to continue building on this momentum as we roll out strategic plan for bringing our BCU B.E.S.T into the next 4 years and beyond,” says President Rachelle Karstens PhD., JD.
With a record-breaking freshmen class, Briar Cliff University looks forward to a bright future of continuing to offer unparalleled educational opportunities for another 90 years. Happy Anniversary BCU!
