Sioux City, IA – Five finalists vied for mini-grants valued up to $4,000 to go towards starting or growing a business in Siouxland at “Swimming with the Sharks” on Wednesday, February 20 at Briar Cliff University. “Swimming with the Sharks,” loosely based on the TV hit "Shark Tank," is an annual competition presented by the Briar Cliff University Enactus team as part of Entrepalooza.
The results of this year’s “Swimming with the Sharks” are as follows:
- Samuel Padilla for STEVEN, a website to help international college students learn about the United States - $500
- Rosalind Torres for Colibri Kitchen fresh salsas - $750
- Michele Van Beek for R&M LLC. Natural Products - $750
- Cassie and Desiree Kitcheyan for Hey Hey Girls Beads and Creations, handmade Native American regalia and beading supplies - $3,000
Entrepalooza is an annual eight-day celebration of entrepreneurial spirit in Siouxland. This year’s Entrepalooza was from February 11 – 21.
The Briar Cliff University Enactus team was provided funding to support Entrepalooza by the Siouxland Economic Development Corporation and Iowa’s West Coast Initiative. Entrepalooza partners include: Briar Cliff University Enactus, Siouxland Economic Development Corporation, Iowa’s West Coast Initiative, Western Iowa Tech Small Business Development Center, Sioux City Growth Organization, Morningside College, Western Iowa Tech Community College, Siouxland Chamber of Commerce, South Sioux City Economic Development, Sioux City Economic Development, North Sioux City Economic Development, and Woodbury County Rural Economic Development, Startup Sioux City, Le Mars Chamber of Commerce, Sioux City Community Schools, and Monona County Economic Development.
