Sioux City, Iowa - Erin Small, Director of New Student Programs at Briar Cliff University, has been awarded the Carol Rocklin Kay Memorial Scholarship to attend The Way Up 2018 Conference. The mission of The Way Up Conference is to assist women in higher education institutions as they continue to develop their leadership and administrative skills.
The Carol Rocklin Kay Memorial Scholarship Fund was established to provide support for student participation in The Way Up Conference. Small has worked in higher education since 2003 at both state and private schools. In her current role at Briar Cliff, Small is responsible for students’ first-year learning experience including new student days, first-year advising, learning communities, and special events geared for new students. She serves on the founding board of the Learning Community Association, assisting colleagues in higher education advance their learning community work.
Small holds a bachelor of science in leadership communication from Buena Vista University and a master of science in higher education counseling and student affairs from the University of Nebraska in Omaha. She is currently pursuing a doctor of philosophy in education from Drake University.
