Sioux City, IA - Briar Cliff University is pleased to announce two new appointments to the University’s President’s Cabinet under the leadership of Interim President Rachelle Karstens.
Matt Thomsen has been appointed as Acting Vice President for Enrollment Management. Since joining Briar Cliff in September 2017, Thomsen has been instrumental in the implementation of several key enrollment strategies including the University’s customer relationship management (CRM) system. In addition, Thomsen oversees the day-to-day operations of Briar Cliff’s admissions department, providing the vision, strategy and operational direction for increasing current and future enrollment at the University.
A Siouxland native, Thomsen has more than 15 years of higher education experience in both university and community college settings. Prior to joining the Briar Cliff community, he served as a Recruitment Coordinator for Western Iowa Tech Community College in Sioux City. In addition, he also held positions at the University of South Dakota and University of Iowa.
Thomsen earned a Master of Science in Administration in organizational leadership from the University of South Dakota and a Bachelor of Science in Horticulture and Soil Science from Colorado State University. He is currently pursuing his Doctorate of Education in adult and higher education from the University of South Dakota.
Thomsen is a member of several industry organizations including the National Association for College Admission Counseling, The College Board, American Association of Collegiate Registrars and Admissions Officers, Dakota Association for College Admission Counseling, Iowa Association for College Admission Counseling, Nebraska Association of Collegiate Registrars and Admissions Officers and the Upper Midwest Association of Collegiate Registrars and Admissions Officers.
Briar Cliff has also expanded Louise Paskey’s title to Vice President for Student Development and Institutional Mission. Previously, Paskey was Vice President for Student Development, a role she has held since joining Briar Cliff in August 2013.
In her expanded role, Paskey will collaborate with members of the university community to advance Briar Cliff’s mission, provide counsel and assistance to the President to support mission-conscious strategic planning and decision making, promote institutional effectiveness and provide leadership as the chair for the University's Catholic Franciscan team. In addition, she will continue to provide vision and leadership to the student development team and serve as Senior Student Affairs Officer and Title IX Coordinator.
Paskey has 26 years of higher education experience, previously serving as Dean of Students at Carthage College in Kenosha, Wisconsin and Associate Dean of Students at Edgewood College in Madison, Wisconsin among other positions.
She earned a Master of Science in Education from Indiana University in Bloomington, Indiana, and a Bachelor of Arts from the University of Wisconsin – Stevens Points in Stevens Point, Wisconsin. Paskey is currently pursuing a Doctorate in Educational Leadership from Edgewood College in Madison, Wisconsin.
She is a member of Student Affairs Administrators in Higher Education, Iowa Women Lead Change, Sioux City College Access Network, Association of Student Affairs at Catholic Colleges and Universities and Leadership Siouxland. Paskey has also served as President of the Iowa Student Personnel Association and Wisconsin College Personnel Association. She is an active member of Holy Cross Parish in Sioux City.
