SIOUX CITY, Iowa – Briar Cliff University is pleased to announce that Bailey Aalfs, Ken Beaulieu, Rosie Chicoine and Dr. Patrick Walsh have joined the Board of Trustees for the university.
Aalfs began his career as a structural engineer at Tower Construction Co., Sioux City, and then became Director of Engineering, Commercial Products at HyGain Electronics, Lincoln, Neb. Later, he started Lunar Communications, Lincoln, and managed the company’s operations in Sioux City.
In 1977, Aalfs founded Sabre Communications Corp., Sioux City, and remained CEO of the business until selling it in 2006, when he retired. He has served on Boards of Directors for Nationwide Appraisal Services Corporation, Source Construction and Siouxland Ethanol. After graduating from the University of South Dakota in 1960, he was a 1st Lieutenant in the U.S. Army. In 2012, Aalfs and his wife, Kathleen, were awarded the Briar Cliff University Medal. The couple has three grown children: Kim, Scott and Jeff. Aalfs previously served on Briar Cliff’s Board of Trustees from 2001 through 2009 and was Chairperson for the university’s “Shaping Lives…Inspiring Futures” capital campaign. Currently, he is a Trustee member of the Board’s Finance Committee.
Beaulieu co-owns AC&R Holding Company and is the founding owner of Global Engineering, Sioux City. AC&R Holding Company owns AC&R Specialist and Global Engineering, both are operating in Sioux City today. Beaulieu spent 20 years at IBP, Dakota City, Neb., where he held a number of leadership positions, including Vice President of engineering. He is a licensed engineer in 28 states.
Beaulieu is Chairman of the Board for the Dakota Dunes Community Improvement District and a member of nine national and international professional organizations. He also serves on the Board of Directors for the Jackson Recovery Foundation. A Hinton, Iowa, native, he is a 1971 graduate of Iowa State University and member of Pi Tau Sigma International Mechanical Engineering Honor Society.
Chicoine, a 1973 graduate of Briar Cliff University, is the 2007 recipient of the Sioux City Museum’s Director’s Award. She was honored with the 2010 Briar Cliff Alumni Association Appreciation Award. In 2012, BCU bestowed Chicoine with the Spirit of Saint Francis Award. Chicoine also served on the Alumni Association Board of Directors.
A member and past President of the Sioux City Museum and Historical Association Board, Chicoine co-chaired the Association’s capital campaign for the new Public Museum and was a member of the Siouxland Heritage Foundation Board. She is the former store manager of Ahlers Clocks.
Dr. Walsh, of Siouxland Urology Associates, P.C., is a founding Board member and an officer for Siouxland Surgery Center. He is a member of the American Urological Association, Iowa Urological Society, Archway Fund of Nebraska Wesleyan University and the University of Notre Dame’s Sorin Society.
Previously, Dr. Walsh served on numerous Boards of Directors, including the Ronald McDonald House, Mercy Medical Center and the Alzheimer’s Association Wine and Roses Festival. In addition, he and his wife, Lori, were Chair Couple of the Diocese of Sioux City Bishop’s Dinner for Catholic Education.
The new Trustees also are members of the President’s Leadership Council at Briar Cliff.
