Briar Cliff announces alumni award recipients

2019 Alumni Award Winners

SIOUX CITY, Iowa – Briar Cliff University recognized two alumni with its annual Alumni Awards on May 7 at Toast to the Tassel, an event celebrating the graduating class. Jane Shey (’79) received the Distinguished Alumni Award and Jake Rosenmeyer (’15) received the GOLD Alumni Award.

Raised on a corn, soybean and cattle farm in Iowa, Jane has worked on agricultural and trade policy for almost 30 years with an emphasis on strategic planning, goal setting, coalition building and communication efforts. Her client base has included trade associations, Fortune 500 companies, agriculture producer organizations, national agencies and local governments. Jane has served on federal government advisory committees and represented the National Association of Animal Breeders on the Agriculture Technical Advisory Committee for Animals and Animal Products (U.S. Department of Agriculture). From her work in Washington D.C. to developing and implementing citywide and local farm-to-food programs, her contributions to sustainable agriculture have made her a thought leader for social change.

Jake Rosenmeyer is the religion teacher and Pastoral Director for Bishop Garrigan High School in Algona, IA. He strives to include the Catholic Franciscan values in his work, and has maintained monthly contact with the Sisters of St. Francis of Dubuque since his time at Briar Cliff and has been named an associate member of the congregation. Jake shares his heart for service as a contributor to the Sister Water Project and with his students through a meal packing program for those in need in Mississippi. He and his students have packed thousands of meals and personally delivered the meals to Morton, MS.

Each year, the Briar Cliff University Office of University Relations accepts nominations for the Distinguished Alumni Award and GOLD Alumni Award. Eligible nominees for the Distinguished Alumni Award live a life reflective of the Catholic Franciscan values taught at Briar Cliff, excel in professional activities and demonstrate personal commitment to Briar Cliff. Eligible nominees for the GOLD Alumni Award graduated between January 1, 2009 and December 31 of the previous academic year and demonstrate a commitment to the Catholic Franciscan values, experience exceptional accomplishments in academic or professional pursuits and exemplify engagement and stewardship with the Briar Cliff community.
