Briar Cliff signs articulation agreement with Western Iowa Tech Community College

Briar Cliff University has signed an articulation agreement with Western Iowa Tech Community College (WITCC), allowing students with an Associate of Arts degree at WITCC to conveniently pursue a Bachelor of Arts in Elementary Education at Briar Cliff University.

The demand for qualified, exceptional teachers continues to be great. A teacher shortage has and will continue to impact the nation, with future growth demands and retirements. The WITCC-BCU agreement, allows students to easily transfer credits to follow their passion to help to provide essential education to our communities.

Students enrolled in the BCU-WITCC Elementary Education Degree Completion Program will participate in Briar Cliff's unique Professional Development School, where students gain hands-on classroom experience through a collaborative relationship between the Briar Cliff University Teacher Preparation Program, the Sioux City Community School District, and Leeds Elementary School. This two-semester practicum placement builds and supports educational leadership and professional practice for all participants. The placement allows students to put theory into practice in a classroom setting – further preparing the student for their student teaching experience.

Based in Sioux City, Iowa, Briar Cliff University Elementary Education program is approved by the Iowa Department of Education. Briar Cliff’s Teacher Education Program prepares candidates to be generalists in elementary education (grades K-6) with an endorsement in reading (grades K-8) as well as provide opportunities to pursue endorsements in special education and middle school. The Professional Development School is based upon standards of the National Association of Professional Development Schools.
