BCU Singers and Chamber Choir present Fall concert

SIOUX CITY, Iowa – The Briar Cliff University Singers and Chamber Choir will present “Journeys” – a fall choral concert at 7:30 p.m., Saturday, Oct. 12, 2013, at First Presbyterian Church, located at 608 Nebraska Street, 

Featuring Henry Purcell’s chamber opera Dido and Aeneas and a variety of sacred choral works, the concert will be conducted by Dr. Sean Burton, Briar Cliff associate professor of music, The Gilchrist Foundation director of choral activities and division chair of arts and humanities.  Dr. Jeremy Owens, BCU assistant professor of music, will accompany several choral selections on piano and organ and serve as harpsichordist in the ensemble of professional musicians to accompany the chamber opera. 

Roles in Dido and Aeneas will be performed by BCU adjunct music faculty member Shannon Salyards; guest artist Shelby VanNordstrand, University of Nebraska, Omaha; BCU music alumnus and WITCC choral director William Darwin, Jr.; BCU music alumna Ellen Osborn; BCU music department chairperson Dr. Mary Day, O.S.F.; and BCU students Jana “Joey” Myers, Chaunté Pope, Mindy Brinkerhoff and Stephen Schager, all of Sioux City; and Katherine Swanson, Burnsville, Minn.

There will be no admission charge at this public event; however, a free-will offering will be accepted. Briar Cliff University Choral Music is supported, in part, by a grant from The Gilchrist Foundation.
