Briar Cliff University Hosts Fifth Annual Future Educators Summit with Keynote Speaker Ann Mincks, Iowa's 2024 Teacher of the Year

October 1, 2024

Briar Cliff University hosted its fifth annual Future Educators Summit, sponsored by the Briar Cliff Education Department. More than 100 students from Bishop Heelan, Elk Point-Jefferson, Sergeant Bluff-Luton, Siouxland Christian, South Sioux City, Woodbury Central, Cherokee, Fort Dodge St. Edmond, and students from the Sioux City Career Academy attended, representing North High, West High, and East High.

“Teachers are the backbone of our education system, shaping the minds and futures of countless students. Their dedication, creativity, and passion inspire young learners to explore, question, and grow,” said Theresa Engle, Education Department Chair at Briar Cliff University. “Strong relationships among teachers, students, and parents foster a supportive and effective learning environment. When teachers engage with students and their families, it creates a collaborative atmosphere that enhances student success.”

Briar Cliff's Education Majors benefit from extensive teaching experiences in local classrooms, exceeding the state of Iowa's requirements. Students have the unique opportunity to start teaching during their first year, under the supervision of dedicated faculty members at Briar Cliff.

“Our small class sizes allow students and professors to get to know each other, which promotes supportive relationships when students may need more assistance and when there are successes to celebrate,” said Engle. “We have many endorsement options for our students, they can teach in the areas they are most passionate about.”

The keynote speaker for the event was Ann Mincks, Iowa’s Teacher of the Year.
