Briar Cliff Hosts Instruction for Homeschool Students

December 2, 2021

The Music Department at Briar Cliff University is offering instruction for homeschool students across the Siouxland area.

“Sing For Joy!” is open to homeschooled students 10 years and older, parents can sign up their child(ren) for the 6-week session. Participants will receive on in depth, supplemental music instruction and the opportunity to perform with the Briar Cliff Singers.

The choir recently performed with the Cliff Singers and the South Sioux City High School Chamber Choir for the concert “This is Why We Sing.”

“The concert was fabulous, really well done,” says Jinger Bittinger whose three children perform in the choir.

After hearing about the opportunity from another homeschool family, Jinger required her children to participate in the first session for fine arts credit. They enjoyed their interactions with professors and other students so much, they all three willingly signed up for the second session.

“It has been a wonderful experience for each of my kids,” she says. “When we signed up, I was grateful for the opportunity for knowledgeable instruction and excited for the group learning experience.”

Bittinger hopes the choir gains traction among the homeschool community in Siouxland and is available in the future.

The Sing For Joy! Choir will perform with the Cliff Singers for the Christmas concert “Songs. Yule. Love.,” directed by Music Department Chair, Dr. Brian Cook and accompanied by Dr. Jeremy Owens at 7 p.m. on December 7th in Our Lady of Grace Chapel on Briar Cliff’s campus.
