Briar Cliff Sunday

The Briar Cliff Sunday Special Collection gives our parishes an opportunity to partner with Briar Cliff University to play a key role in guiding our youth both academically and spiritually. Once a year, all Sioux City Diocese Parishes are invited to help raise money for Briar Cliff University. The Bishop R. Walker Nickless Scholarship Program makes a Charger education affordable for high school seniors who belong to any Catholic parish within the Sioux City Diocese.

What is the Bishop's Scholarship? The Bishop’s Scholarship is awarded to a graduating high school senior who belongs to a Catholic parish in the Diocese of Sioux City. Applicants must show initiative, have a solid work ethic and the ability to organize and lead community, school and/or parish events and activities. They must demonstrate strong academic performance while maintaining an active faith life. A recommendation letter from the student’s pastor is needed to be considered by the scholarship application committee.

Briar Cliff is the only private, non-profit, Catholic University in our Diocese. This scholarship depends heavily on the support of our community to help continue the tradition of providing affordable, faith-based higher education. Help us nourish the seeds of faith originally planted by parishes like yours.

Over $28,000 was raised to support the Bishop's Scholarship last year. This year's Briar Cliff Sunday will kick off Catholic Schools week on January 30 & 31
