History/Social Studies Teaching
Degree Type: Teaching Endorsement — Program Overview
The history and social studies teaching endorsement in designed to develop knowledge of key themes, issues and trends that have shaped humankind; and the student's ability to instruct the material in their own future classroom.
Briar Cliff offers history teaching endorsements in four areas, including:
7-12 Social Science/American History
The American History endorsement requires 30 general social science credit hours, 15 of which are required American History, including HIST 231, HIST 232, two of these following courses: HIST 351, 352, 353; and one of these following courses: HIST 224, 238, 239 or 345.
7-12 Social Science/World History
The World History endorsement requires 30 general social science credit hours, 15 of which are required World History, including HIST 113, 114, 337 and 360, and one of these following courses: HIST 256, 260 or PSCI 300.
7-12 Social Science/American Government
The American Government endorsement requires 30 general social science credit hours, 15 of which are required American Government courses, including PSCI 101 and four of the following courses: PSCI 243, 245, 264, 303, 313 or 338.
K-8 Social Science/Social Studies
The K-8 Social Studies endorsement requires completion of the teaching major and 24 hours of general social studies courses, including HIST 231, 232, SOCY 240, PSCI 101, PSYC 110, EDUC/PSYC 280, PSCI 224 and one of the following: PSYC 350 or 351.
