5 Terms You Need To Know

It is easy enough to find our scenic clifftop campus, located on the north side of Sioux City. Sure, there are a lot of steps to make it up the hill to experience the magic that is Briar Cliff University, but anyone can take a tour or enjoy a walk around our beautiful unique campus. But it takes a true ~ Charger ~ to not only walk the walk, but talk the talk.

Below are the 5 terms you need to learn, use, and love to blend in at BCU:

Charger

A Charger is a horse trained for battle; a cavalry horse. It is also what we call every single member of the BCU family. We are the Chargers!!

Bolt

The most infamous Charger in our nearly 100-year history, is our mascot named Bolt. You can find likenesses all around Briar Cliff.

#BattleOn

This is an expression that we use to encourage all Chargers. Whether it’s on the field, in the classroom, or in life. As you look to continue navigating your admissions process, let us be the first to say "Battle On, Charger!"

The Cliff

From BCU to Briar Cliff, our university has many nicknames. "The Cliff" with a capital "T" is often used to refer to our university's scenic clifftop campus.

Franciscan

It's not just an order of Catholicism that is found in our mission. The principles for Franciscan life make up the core of our University's values: Connecting in Joyful Service, Peacemaking, Reverencing Creation, and Creating a Caring Community. It is a way to describe both who we are and who we want to be.

Charger, picture yourself on The Cliff and using the lingo to navigate and understand our campus and culture. We can't wait to see you in action.
