Reference and Instruction Librarian

The Bishop Mueller Library at Briar Cliff University seeks an enthusiastic and creative information professional to become their next full-time, non-tenure track faculty member, Reference and Instruction Librarian.  The successful candidate will be responsible for leading reference and instruction services for the library.  The person in this position will work collaboratively to build strong faculty relationships across campus, organize and strengthen the library instruction program, and build a lively and diverse outreach program.  The successful candidate will develop and run the reference and instruction program, coordinating course integrated library instruction sessions, related tours, and staff training on new resources and technology.  The successful candidate will be highly motivated, innovative, and proactive.  The new leadership of the Bishop Mueller Library is looking for a person with a passion for library service and the desire to provide quality services to the various instructional environments provided by the University.   This position reports directly to the Director of Library and Instructional Services.Required qualifications for this position include:  Graduate degree in Library Science or closely related field; instructional experience in a variety of settings; developing and integrating a variety of technology services; effective oral and written communication skills; and a strong commitment to teamwork.Preferred qualifications for this position include:  MLS from an ALA accredited program; experience with reference work in an academic setting, electronic information services, and teaching or training experience.  Candidates with web site development or instructional design skills will be strongly considered.

Assistant Professor of Political Science

Briar Cliff University invites applications for a tenure-track assistant professor of Political Science beginning August 2010.  PhD or minimum ABD in Political Science required.  Teaching responsibilities will include both introductory and upper- level courses in U. S. politics and government.  Secondary field in African, Latin American, or Middle Eastern politics a plus.  Necessary attributes include a visionary understanding of curriculum, a strong commitment to both the major field and general education, and a passion for high quality undergraduate teaching.  Review of applications will begin immediately and continue until the position is filled. 

Instructor/Assistant Professor of Nursing

Briar Cliff University is seeking candidates for a tenure-track faculty position in the Department of Nursing effective fall 2010. The University offers an NLNAC-accredited BSN program with a basic BSN, LPN-BSN, and RN-BSN options, and an MSN program with Family Nurse Practitioner and Nurse Educator specialty options.

Primary responsibilities include teaching adult health courses and clinical experiences.

Qualifications: A master’s degree in nursing is required with experience in teaching in BSN programs; adult health experience and doctorate preferred. 

Full Time Tenure-track faculty position Human Resources

Human Resource Management:  Tenure-track, full-time faculty position to direct and teach the undergraduate human resource management program with additional teaching responsibilities in an online master’s of human resource management program. Preferred candidates will hold a doctorate or ABD in management.  Those with a master’s degree and extensive HR experience and/or SPHR certification will be considered. Courses to be taught include compensation, human resource management, organizational behavior and strategic HRM. Salary and rank will be commensurate with education and experience.

Assistant Professor of Music/Piano Accompanist

BRIAR CLIFF UNIVERSITY invites applications for full-time Assistant Professor of Music/Piano Accompanist.  A tenure earning, full-time appointment beginning fall 2010.  Duties include accompanying university choirs, teaching music appreciation courses, accompanying student vocalists in seminars and recitals, and assisting with musical theatre and opera productions.  Other teaching opportunities may include courses in music history and class piano, or other areas, based upon the applicant’s expertise and departmental needs.  The university choirs regularly engage in local, national and international concert tours and the individual in this position will be heavily involved with these and other high-profile performances.  Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to collaborate with faculty, staff, students, administrators and members of the community are an essential requirement of this position.  The ideal candidate will be a  skilled collaborative pianist, with specialization in choral and vocal accompanying, who also possesses a desire to creatively teach music appreciation courses in the context of the general education curriculum in a liberal arts environment.  Master’s required; ABD or DMA preferred. Please send a CD or DVD recording along with required materials below.  Review of applications will begin immediately.

Instructor/Assistant Professor of Sociology and Criminal Justice

Briar Cliff University invites applicants for full-time, tenure-track position of assistant professor/instructor of sociology starting August 25, 2010.  Primary specialization in deviance and crime required, with a solid history of teaching and research in the area.  Secondary area of emphasis open, but strong background in theory or research methods would be beneficial.  Ph.D. in hand preferred; advanced ABD candidates will be considered. 

Department offers a B.A. in Social Research and is the home of the University’s Criminal Justice program.  CJ program is based on a philosophy of restorative justice and emphasizes theory and research throughout the curriculum.  Department also operates the Siouxland Social Science Research Center which provides the opportunity to do funded research.
