Sioux City, Iowa – The Briar Cliff University Board of Trustees and the Sisters of St. Francis of Dubuque, Iowa invite Briar Cliff family and friends as well as the Siouxland community to celebrate Briar Cliff’s history, mission and impact during the inauguration of Rachelle L. Karstens, J.D. as the University’s eleventh president on Friday, April 26.
A compassionate and proven leader with a background in higher education, law and fundraising, Karstens has served in various roles at Briar Cliff including interim president since 2017. Karstens received her Bachelor of Arts from Wartburg College in Waverly, Iowa, and her law degree from the University of Iowa. Karstens’ inauguration will be the first presidential inauguration in Sioux City in the past 16 years.
A weeklong schedule of events is planned leading up to inauguration day including activities centered on the theme of “Igniting Faith. Empowering Learning. Inspiring Service.”

The Siouxland community is invited to join Briar Cliff for inauguration day as well as other events planned during inauguration week.
