Briar Cliff lecture series to explore challenges faced by immigrant and refugee learners

SIOUX CITY, Iowa – Briar Cliff University will host its annual Prairie Fire Lecture Series at 7 p.m. on March 26 in the St. Francis Center on the Briar Cliff campus. The lecture series aims to increase awareness of a community project or initiative and its impact on Siouxland.

This year’s presentation, “This Is Me,” will highlight the unique challenges immigrant and refugee learners face and strategies to assist them with self-awareness, self-expression, and personal and communal growth. “This Is Me” will be presented by Tori Albright and Ryan Allen.

Albright is the World Language Program Coordinator for the Sioux City Community School District and teaches in the Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages (TESOL) program at Northwestern College.

Allen is the Chair of the Department of Modern Languages at Briar Cliff University and is a certified trauma practitioner through the National Institute for Trauma and Loss in Children.
