Hundreds of Siouxland All-State choir hopefuls to perform concert

SIOUX CITY, Iowa — Hundreds of high school singers from around Siouxland will perform a concert at 7 p.m. on Wednesday, Aug. 9, at the Bishop Heelan High School Fine Arts Building. The event is free and open to public.

The performance is the culmination of the 31st Pre-All-State Choral Music Camp, held Aug. 6 through 9 on the campus of Briar Cliff University. This intensive, three-day camp, sponsored by the Department of Music at Briar Cliff, is designed to prepare students for the 2017 Iowa All-State Chorus auditions in a casual but hard-working atmosphere. Hundreds of students, hailing from dozens of school districts in northwest Iowa, will attend the camp.

The camp’s musical director is Dr. Sean Burton, Professor of Music, Director of Choral Activities, and Chairperson of the Music Department at Briar Cliff. Those assisting with musical instruction include Dr. Jeremy Owens, Associate Professor of Music at BCU; Dr. John Flanery, BCU alum and Co-Director of Choral Activities, Bishop Heelan High School; Dr. Jean Hickman, Director of Choral Activities, Daytona State College; Jayne Koch, BCU alum and Freelance Accompanist; and Rachael Wragge, BCU alum and Co-Director of Choral Activities, Bishop Heelan High School. Briar Cliff music students Emily Bramlett, Morgan Chartier, Michael Danner, Gabe Griesel, Anna Koch and Brandy Trucke are serving as camp counselors.
