Annual Golf Classic Raises Over $47K for Student Scholarships

SIOUX CITY, Iowa – More than 100 golfers raised over $47,000 for Briar Cliff University student scholarships in BCU’s Annual Lila Frommelt Memorial Golf Classic, held recently at Whispering Creek Golf Club in Sioux City. The tournament received broad community support from local businesses and individuals.

All proceeds from the 18-hole-event will go directly to Briar Cliff students in the form of academic, merit and needs-based scholarships.

The golf classic is named for the late Coach Frommelt, an NAIA Hall of Famer who pioneered collegiate women’s golf regionally and nationally as Briar Cliff’s head coach from 1972 to 1999. Coach Frommelt passed away in September 2003.

“Lila Frommelt dedicated much of her life to Briar Cliff student-athletes by helping them succeed in the classroom and in athletics,” said Lorna Kohn, coordinator for activities, events and eMedia for University Relations at Briar Cliff. “We are proud to honor her with this annual event in her name.”
