SIOUX CITY, Iowa – Dr. Sean Burton, Director of Choral Activities and chair of the Department of Music at Briar Cliff University, contributed five resource guides to a textbook about teaching music earlier this year.
The book, titled Teaching Music Through Performance in Choir - Volume 5, was released during the 2019 American Choral Directors Association National Conference in Kansas City from February 27 to March 2. Dr. Burton was in attendance and was recognized at interest sessions featuring the new book.
Teaching Music Through Performance in Choir is a nationally renowned resource designed for practicing music educators and college students in choral methods courses at both the undergraduate and graduate levels. Volume 5 is listed at 724 pages and is published by G.I.A. Publications.
The goal of the Department of Music at Briar Cliff University is to provide a means for spiritual, intellectual and artistic development consistent with a liberal arts education. The Department of Music oversees the Chamber Choir, Cliff Singers and Jazz Ensemble.
Dr. Burton is the Chair of the Department of Music, as well as the Director of Choral Activities and Director of the Jazz Ensemble. He teaches courses on conducting, music education and aural skills. Dr. Burton created A Briar Cliff Christmas, Briar Cliff’s annual choral-orchestral Christmas celebration, and is an active scholar contributing articles and reviews as well as editing the peer-reviewed journal The Choral Scholar.
