Small has worked in higher education since 2003 at both state and private schools. Her work has included diversity focused student programs, residence life, student activities, and leadership development. At Briar Cliff she is responsible for the first-year experience which includes new student days, first-year advising, Charger Weekend, and learning communities. She, and her talented staff, work closely with students, staff, and faculty to help new students succeed. She serves on the Learning Community Association founding board, assisting colleagues in higher ed advance their learning community work. She has a bachelor’s of arts from Buena Vista University in leadership communication, a masters in science in degree in higher education counseling and student affairs from the University of Nebraska at Omaha, and she is beginning her PhD in education from Drake University.
