Robert Gibson has been involved with instrumental music education as a teacher and clinician for more than thirty-five years, including service in public and parochial schools. He is the Founding Director of the Briar Cliff Jazz Ensemble, which began in 2006. Gibson joined the Sioux City Symphony Orchestra as a trumpet player in 1979 and has held the position of Principal Trumpet since 1993. He has also performed with the Temptations, Moody Blues, Blood, Sweat, and Tears, and Mannheim Steamroller. He recently retired as Assistant Director of the Sioux City Municipal Band after fourteen seasons. He has served on the advisory board of the Iowa Jazz Championships and is a member of the Iowa Bandmasters Association.
