Prior to her arrival at Briar Cliff University, Ms. Kurz completed 29 years of public education in Nebraska. She served as an elementary, middle, and high school teacher as well as an elementary special education teacher. She spent two years as Director of Student Services.
During her tenure, Ms. Kurz presented on a variety of educational topics at the local and state level ranging from the School Improvement Process, Differentiated Instruction, the MDT & IEP process, and Identifying Critical Content.
She is the recipient to the following awards: National Model Status from the National Career Academy Coalition, Grand Island Public Schools: Middle School Teacher of the Year, and Nebraska Red Cross Outstanding Teacher/Mentor of the Year.
Finally, her involvement at the state and local levels include: Grand Island Public Schools Advisory Committee to the Superintendent, Nebraska State Education Association, National Education Association, STARS Advisory Committee to the Commissioner (Nebraska Department of Education), Nebraska Council of School Administrators, Nebraska Council of Special Education Supervisors, and NCSA’s Emerging Administrators Program.
