Biography

Mary Zink has over 20 years of experience working in education, consulting and management in the private and non-profit sectors, including extensive work in the quick service restaurant, high tech, healthcare, banking and manufacturing sectors.  Prior to joining the faculty at Briar Cliff University, she worked as an assistant professor of management for nine years at another similar school. Prior to entering higher education, Mary was a regional manager for a large, multinational corporation specializing in employee benefits, payroll, and human resource outsourcing.  Zink was, at that time, responsible for directing eight consultants doing business in four states and a $7.75-million-dollar book of business.

Mary enjoys teaching business fundamentals and leadership to future businessmen and women, and has special interests in leadership, employee productivity, business communication, and ethics.  As an educator, she takes a practical approach in the classroom, cutting through confusion to help students apply business skills directly.  In her classrooms, students engage in discussions and focus on learning to think critically, communicate clearly, use quantitative data to make reasoned judgements, and act ethically.  Zink also emphasizes the collaborative, coaching aspects of leadership popularized by Ken Blanchard.

Zink has an undergraduate degree in Spanish from Carleton College, and an MBA from Regis University in Denver. She is currently pursuing a Doctor of Business Administration degree with CalSouthern University.  A human resource management specialist, Mary Zink holds certification from the Human Resources Certification Institute as a Senior Professional in Human Resources and from the Society for Human Resources Management as a Senior Certified Professional.
