Mark Svagera has been the head men’s basketball coach at Briar Cliff since March 2017.
Prior to becoming head coach, Svagera was the top assistant at BCU for six seasons, helping the Chargers achieve an overall record of 137-61 over that time period — a span that included four trips to the NAIA Division II national tournament, and back-to-back Great Plains Athletic Conference championships in 2016-17. In 2016, Briar Cliff set school record with 32 wins and matched the deepest tournament run in school history with a trip to the NAIA D-II quarterfinals.
Svagera came to Briar Cliff from Dickinson State (N.D.) University, where he served as an assistant coach for two seasons. He also spent two seasons as a graduate assistant at Hastings (Neb.) College.
Svagera, a native of Ralston, Neb., graduated from Dana College in 2006 with a bachelor’s degree in physical education. He was a four-year member of the Vikings’ basketball program. He also holds a Master of Arts degree in education from Hastings College.
