Prepare to teach elementary, middle, or high school by majoring in K-12 education and human performance at Briar Cliff. With small class sizes, careful student advising, and personalized attention, Briar Cliff University’s Teacher Preparation Program is known for producing caring and distinguished teachers. Our program is known for producing caring, distinguished teachers and is fully approved by the Iowa Department of Education.

Get early, hands-on experience.

Before you begin student teaching, you will have already gained 120 hours of classroom experience through observations and working with small groups in your practicum experiences. This ensures that you'll be prepared for the best possible student teacher experience.

Boost your resume.

You have the option to pick up a special education, middle school (grades 5-8) teaching, and coaching endorsements, so you'll be qualified to teach more subject areas and more grade levels. Spanish certificates are also available.

Become Catholic school certified.

You have the option to complete a certificate program to teach in Catholic schools. This certificate program is a partnership between the four Iowa Catholic Dioceses and BCU’s education and theology departments. Although not a full teaching endorsement, this certificate better prepares you to teach religion courses and gives you preferential hiring status in Diocesan schools.
