The world of media is evolving, and you have to know photography, design, video, social media – and I learned all of it at BCU.

When wedding photographer Maddie Peschong captured a touching moment between a bride and the bride’s anxiety service dog just moments before walking down the aisle, she figured she snapped a good photo.

She just didn’t realize how good:

A wedding guest posted the image to the social media site Reddit, and in less than 48 hours the photo was picked up by Mashable, Buzzfeed, Huffington Post, the Today Show, Good Morning America and even People magazine.

Not bad for a photographer who initially swore off weddings!

“I didn’t think I’d ever do weddings; I started doing portrait photography as a fallback while I was job hunting,” Maddie says. “But I started to get the wedding bug about a year or two ago and I just fell in love with it. There are so many once-in-alifetime moments to capture.”

Maddie graduated from Briar Cliff in 2012 with a degree in journalism and mass communication; and now the Sioux Falls photographer owns her own portrait and design studio, “Mad Photo & Design.”

“I chose Briar Cliff because I dreamed of being a journalist — but I found out that you can’t just learn how to write for newspapers and expect that to carry you to a career,” Maddie says. “The world of media is evolving, and you have to know photography, design, video, social media – and I learned all of it at BCU.”
