Meet Ariel Pokett

“Briar Cliff has taught me if you’re a little unsure of yourself, you can find acceptance, peace, and prosperity on your own time and in your own way.”

Ariel Pokett (’21), decided to attend Briar Cliff University because it’s close to home and offers an appealing and personalized style of learning. At BCU, Ariel has found opportunities to be involved in Cliff Singers, Chamber Choir, Cliff News, President of the Theater Club and Leading Coordinator of the 2019 Haunted Tunnels.

This Sioux City natives decision to study digital communications came from a lesson she learned in high school - the way one communicates with others plays a significant role in how far life takes each and every individual. The lesson of properly communicating and telling the individual’s story has given Ariel experience and opportunities to learn more about herself and how to better communicate with others.

“I remember I was incredibly anxious and shy my first day at Briar Cliff,” says Ariel. “I was surprised to experience such a kind and welcoming culture. Over the last couple years, Briar Cliff has taught me even if you’re a little unsure of yourself you can find acceptance, peace and prosperity on your own time and in your own way. I thank the professors and the university staff for helping me grow intellectually and embracing who I am.”

Upon graduation with a bachelor’s degree in digital communications, Ariel would like to remain in the broadcast industry, perhaps in radio or as an anchor on the local news. She also hopes to relocate somewhere that gets less snow. Her tip for new student attending Briar Cliff is to ‘live and breathe’ by a planner and even when things seem crazy or hectic, take a second to appreciate the small things.
