Academic Technology Manager

IT | Troubleshoot Software | Create System of Support

The Manager of Academic Technology will provide primary support for the university by coordinating and maintaining the IT Center Academic Help Desk.  The Manager of Academic Technology will provide training, updates, keep informed in academic technology changes, and create a system of support to the faculty and students.  This person will participate in various projects, troubleshoot software issues, and provide written documentation to solutions.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES and RESPONSIBILITIES include the following:

  • Provide training to Faculty to set up online courses, upload the course syllabus, create and utilize the Grade Book function, use the Communicate/email function and add course content.
  • Work with faculty and students helping them in the basic operation of the online learning software.
  • Keep informed of best practices for online courses set up and use.
  • Offer training and support for integrated software applications into Brightspace:
  1. Zoom web conferencing - live and recorded sessions
  2. Turnitin software
  3. Responds Lockdown Browser
  4. ePortfolio
  5. Third party publisher resources: McGraw Hill, Cengage, Elsevier, MindEdge, etc.
  • Provide assistance in person, by email, and by telephone.
  • Lead the team working on programming and related query support for the university’s Learning Management Software.
  • Liaison between D2L support and end users.
  • Liaison between publisher resources and end users.
  • Create accounts for new students and employees.
  • Complete orientation for new students as needed.
  • Assist with online faculty evaluations when requested by the Academic Affairs office.
  • Provide back up support to general BCU Help Desk.
  • Manage the Briar Cliff University corporate cell phone lines, usage, and monthly billing/coding.
  • Manage the IT Center credit card with transaction management receipts and coding monthly.
  • Other duties as assigned

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

  • Bachelor’s degree in IT or related field
  • 3-5 years of experience in related field
  • Prefer experience in higher education environment
