Bishop Mueller Library

The three-story Bishop Mueller Library focuses on serving the Briar Cliff and Siouxland community. Our library faculty and staff, including student workers, specialize in connecting people with resources for academic needs.

The Bishop Mueller Library houses a collection of 50,000 monographs, 250,000 premium e-books, millions of journal articles, Blu-Rays, DVDs, and streaming videos. Pro tip: you can check out way more than just books and movies in the library. Ask at the front desk for any available laptops, iPads, digital cameras (including  360-degree camera), digital voice recorders, and so much more! They’ve even purchased Oculus Go and Oculus Quest to check out.

The library is home to two separate sites for computer access.  In the lobby for easy access is a small cluster of computers and printers. Upstairs is a full computer lab with a multifunction printer/copier. The basement also has a couple computers in the “quiet zone” where students can individually study without the distraction of groups around them.

Named after Joseph Maximillian Mueller, a bishop of the Sioux City Diocese, the library was built in 1958 and dedicated in 1959. In the beginning, the Bishop Mueller Library often depended on donations from the libraries of private individuals. In 1993, the mezzanine area was extended along the west and north walls providing infrastructure to improve the automation and computerization of the libraries services. After the renovation, the library continued to grow, adding two collections: visual materials and equipment from the Learning Resource Center and the Curriculum Materials collection from the education department. In Fall 2020, the library received a grant for a Digital Media Creation Studio. With this studio, students, faculty, staff, and community members are able to create and develop high-quality video and audio products.
