Areas of Study
Accounting
If you're majoring in
accounting, your career
choices are many -
certified public
accountant, auditor,
bank officer, budget
examiner, research
analyst, stockbroker,
credit investigator,
educator or government
employee. These are just
a few of the careers in
which you can find
successful Briar Cliff
accounting graduates.
The accounting
curriculum at Briar
Cliff gives you the
tools you need to assume
many accounting
positions. Your advisor
will help you create a
program of study, which
blends required courses
and electives to fulfill
your personal and career
goals. The accounting
major is designed to
prepare students for
careers as professional
accountants in public,
private, governmental
and not-for-profit
organizations. The
program builds on a
foundation of liberal
arts courses and
provides the educational
background to become a
C.P.A. or to attain
other appropriate
professional
certification.
Business
Administration
The Business
Administration major
provides the necessary
instruction in
functional areas such as
marketing, management
information systems,
human resource
management, finance and
accounting. This
discipline will build a
solid foundation for a
Master's Degree of
Business Administration.
Human Resource
Management
A degree in Human
Resource Management will
provide you with
valuable skills for a
number of different
disciplines. Because
your education is
skills-based, you will
have flexibility in
working in various areas
of human resource
management. Hands-on
experience through
internships will enhance
your skills and provide
you with invaluable
resources.
The human resource
management program is
intended for two types
of management-oriented
students: those choosing
to work in HRM and/or
those interested in a
supervisory or
management position. The
major also offers
specialized study in
business, psychology,
and communications to
keep you updated in the
field.
Elementary
Education (Algona Center
Only)
A degree in elementary
education will allow you
to focus on a strong
liberal arts program in
addition to your
professional education
courses. You will learn
both theories and
methods of education
through classroom and
on-site experiences.
Briar Cliff
University Extended
Campus offers an
elementary education
major with endorsements
in reading and/or
special education. The
teacher education
program complies with
and is accredited by the
State of Iowa Department
of Education.
