Iowa Code
Section 261E.2
and Sections
487(a)(25) and
487(e) of the
Higher Education
Act of 1965, as
amended, require
the development,
administration,
and enforcement
of a code of
conduct
governing
educational loan
activities.
Officers,
employees,
trustees and
agents-including
the alumni
association,
booster club and
other
organizations
associated with
Briar Cliff
University agree
to the
provisions of
this Code of
Conduct.
A comprehensive Code of
Conduct detailing
permissible and
impermissible activities
may be
reviewed online
here.
We
would like to assure you
that there are no
revenue sharing
agreements, stock
options, or financial benefits to
Briar Cliff or the
financial aid staff from
any lender.
It
is important to note
there are two types of
educational loans:
federal loans and
private alternative
student loans.
Briar Cliff has
developed a lender list
for federal and private
alternative loans based
on a careful review of
Request for Proposals
(RFP) from a variety of
national student loan
lenders. The proposals
included information
about borrower benefits,
loan processing, and
borrower’s access to
their loan information.
As a result, the lenders
on Briar Cliff’s list
have been chosen because
they meet the following
criteria:
-
Documented and proven
excellent, reliable, and
efficient service to
students
-
Favorable repayment
benefits and secured
borrower accessibility
of their loan
information
-
Consistent, efficient,
and timely processing
via our loan processing
software.
The lender list is
provided as a starting
point to help students
and parents examine and
compare benefits offered
by lenders. A student or
parent borrower may
choose any lender that
offers federal or
private alternative
loans, and Briar Cliff
University will process
their loans in a timely
manner. We
encourage students and
parents to review Web
sites for lenders on the
lender list as well as
other lenders before
making their
lender choice. You
can review Briar Cliff’s
lender lists at the
following Web sites.
www.briarcliff.edu/stafford_lenders.aspx for Federal Subsidized
and Unsubsidized
Stafford Student Loans.
www.briarcliff.edu/plus_lenders.aspx
for Federal PLUS Loans
www.briarcliff.edu/supplemental_loan.aspx
for Private Alternative
Loans.
When considering loan
options, we ask that
students and parents:
Remain alert to
direct-to–consumer
education loans.
Students and parents who
receive unsolicited
offers in the mail
should be cautious, read
the marketing material
carefully, and
understand the
conditions of the loan
before signing any
paperwork.
Remember that
conditional benefits
attached to “on-time”
payments are not as
advantageous when
compared to reduction or
elimination of fees to
originate a loan.
Keep in mind that, by
law, all eligibility for
a federal education loan
must be certified by the
college’s financial aid
office.
Tell Briar Cliff’s
financial aid office
about favorable loan
programs.
