Lynn Schlesser
JOB:
Human resource
generalist at Gelita
FAMILY:
Married to Dave;
2
children—Robert and
Conner
WHAT FEW PEOPLE
KNOW
ABOUT ME:
I’m
learning to knit
socks
on four needles!
WHAT EVERYONE
KNOWS
ABOUT ME:
Bo, my Newfoundland
dog,
is
my pride and joy.
STARTED AT BCU
Summer 2006
Lynn Schlesser knew it
was risky
to step beyond
the accounting
department of her
longtime employer—but
she was ready.
Anxious
for a new challenge, she
pursued an opportunity
in the
human resource
department.
While she
had no experience
in HR,
the company’s
vice-president believed
Lynn was the best person
for the job.
Soon, however, Lynn
realized just
how much
she had to learn if she
wanted to maintain her
high-performance
reputation at the
company and prove the
boss had made the right
decision.
She came to Briar Cliff
for an
in-depth study
course for HR
professionals that would
prepare
her to take a
certification exam.
Certification, she knew,
would
ensure credibility
in her new field
and
enable her to better
serve her employer. Lynn
signed up for the course
at Briar Cliff
University. And after 10
sessions and hours of
studying, she cried
tears of joy when she
was awarded
Certification as a
Professional in Human
Resources (PHR).
Certification, it
seemed, was just
the
beginning. Lynn’s boss
encouraged her to pursue
a
university degree. As
her boss explained,
additional education
would provide Lynn with
broader knowledge and
more experience to
handle the tough
decisions that
would
come with advancement.
Since Lynn had already
experienced the benefits
of
Briar Cliff
University, her decision
to earn her bachelor’s
degree from BCU was a
“no-brainer.” The Office
of Admissions helped her
move
easily into her
classes.
Knowledgeable,
experienced
faculty
employ quality teaching
methods that Lynn finds
particularly well-paced
for the adult learner.
Sometimes it’s
challenging to
balance
college classes with a
full-time job and family
obligations—but with a
fair amount of planning,
Lynn is managing well.
And since
she knows from
experience that it’s
also important to factor
in a little
time for
herself, she enlists
help
with household
chores. Lynn and
her family are committed
to having dinner
together, which provides
an important sense of
order for their hectic
lives.
BCU for Lynn… BCU for
you!
