Monthly Meetings Help Men Discern Call

Jan 10, 2013 • By Renee Webb, Catholic Globe Bookmark and Share

Monthly meetings for men discerning a call to the priesthood provide information and affirmation. Father Brad Pelzel, diocesan vocations director, facilitates the regular meetings that are held at Briar Cliff University in Sioux City on the second Thursday of the month. The meetings begin with evening prayer at 5 p.m., a meal at 5:15 p.m. and then discernment at 5:45 p.m.

He said they use the book To Save a Thousand Souls as a point of discussion for discernment and with that the men are given a booklet that lists topics to be covered, questions that relate to the topic and so on.

“It is a tool for guys who are looking at the priesthood to have questions answered and talk about aspects of the priesthood that they may not have considered previously,” the vocations director said.
