Event this week focuses on entrepreneurialism

SIOUX CITY | Thirteen Siouxland organizations will co-sponsor Entrepalooza, a four-day celebration of entrepreneurial spirit in Siouxland this week.
The celebration will kick off at 7 p.m. Monday with a free public event in the Stark Student Center at Briar Cliff University. Lance Morgan, CEO of Ho-Chunk, Inc., will be the keynote speaker for the event, sponsored by the Eldon and Regina Roth Center for Entrepreneurship and Enactus student group at Briar Cliff.
Morgan, who leads the Winnebago Tribe's award-winning economic development corporation, will speak on the benefits of entrepreneurship.
On Tuesday, the Innovation Market will be held from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the Commerce Building, 520 Nebraska St. Entrepreneurs and business leaders are invited to attend the event. Young professionals are encouraged to submit business ideas that will benefit Siouxland. Sponsored by the Sioux City Growth Organization (SCGo), Innovation Market is a venue for entrepreneurs to showcase their ideas for businesses, community events and non-profits. On Wednesday, Briar Cliff’s Entrepreneurship Camp for high school students will be held on campus from 10:30 a.m. to noon. Sponsored by BCU’s Enactus team, the camp will feature local entrepreneurs advising high school students on their business plans. Preregistration is required. On Wednesday, Morningside College also will sponsor “Be An Entrepreneur for a Day,” where participants may interact with local entrepreneurs. For more information, contact Pam Mickelson at email@example.com.
At 6:30 p.m. Wednesday, Siouxlanders can “Get on the Bus” to tour operations of four local entrepreneurs. Space is limited for this event, which is sponsored by Roth Center for Entrepreneurship and Enactus. Make reservations with Dr. Judy Thompson at firstname.lastname@example.org.
On Thursday, Briar Cliff’s Roth Center for Entrepreneurship and Enactus will host the annual “Swimming with the Sharks” competitions. Presentations and judging for the general public contest will begin at 7 p.m. and at 8:30 p.m. for the college student contest.
General public finalists will vie for mini-grants valued up to $4,200. There will be $3,500 in grant money for college student finalists. Contest prize money will be provided by Siouxland Economic Development Corporation and Economic Development offices of South Sioux City, North Sioux City, Sioux City and Woodbury County.
