SIOUX CITY, Iowa – Briar Cliff University professor Dr. Brian T. Hazlett recently had an article published in The Michigan Botanist, 2012, Vol. 51, a peer-reviewed journal of The Michigan Botanical Club.
Dr. Hazlett is professor of biology and environmental science at Briar Cliff, where he also is director of the Center for Prairie Studies. In his article, titled “The Road to the Isles: Reminiscences of Ed Voss as Dissertation Chairman,” Dr. Hazlett reflects on studying under Dr. Edward G. Voss at The University of Michigan 25 years ago.
Dr. Voss, who passed away earlier this year, was an internationally renowned scientist, devoted conservationist and educator, whose area of scientific research was in vascular plants of the Great Lakes region. His best known work is the three-volume Michigan Flora.
The current edition of The Michigan Botanist is devoted entirely to his life. The Michigan Botanical Club is the native plant society for the State of Michigan and home of the Michigan Big Tree Program.
