What
is
interlibrary
loan
(ILL)?
ILL
is a
service
offered
to
BCU
students
and
employees
that
entails
the
library
borrowing
a
source
from
another
library
for
an
individual.
What
may
not
be
borrowed?
- Fiction for non-research purposes
- Textbooks
- Audiovisual Material
- Software
- Archival and Special Collections
- Reference Material
- Articles we own
- Musical Compact Discs
- Entire issues or several articles from the same periodical might not be allowed
According
to
Copyright
Law, the
following
restrictions
also
apply:
- the library can only request the same work five times in an academic year,
- the library can only receive five articles published in any periodical title in one academic year, and
- the library will also request only one article per periodical issue or one chapter per book.

information

the
library's
copyright
policy.
How to
submit
an ILL
request?
-
Confirm
that
the
BCU
library
does
not
own
the
item.
- If it is a book, video, or DVD, check the BCU catalog.
- If looking for an article, check "Briar Cliff University Online and Print Holdings" under "Periodical Holdings" to confirm that the library does not have a copy of the periodical and, subsequent, article.
-
If
the
library
does
not
own
the
item,
complete
a
form
(print
or
online)
that
corresponds
with
the
item
type.
Print
forms
are
available
at
the
reference
desk;
return
print
forms
to
the
circulation
desk.
How long
will it
take?
The ILL
process
may take
from 10
to 14
days
even if
a
library
in Sioux
City
owns the
material.
(Your
Briar
Cliff ID
does
allow
you to
directly
check
out
material
from
other
Sioux
City
libraries.)
Upon the
arrival
of
materials,
notification
will be
sent to
the
provided
email
address.
Where to
pick up
and
return
ILL
materials?
Materials
need to
be
picked
up and
returned
to the
circulation
desk for
on-campus
and
commuter
students.
The
library
will
mail
articles
to
distance
education
students,
but
special
arrangements
will
need to
be
arranged
for the
return
of
books.
Photocopies
do not
need to
be
returned.
How long
can
materials
be
checked
out?
The loan
period
depends
on the
lending
library's
policy.
A normal
check
out
period
ranges
from 2
to 4
weeks.
Can ILL
materials
be
renewed?
It
depends
on the
lending
library.
If
materials
need to
be
renewed,
contact
Sr. Mary
Jane
Koenigs
about
the
possibility
at least
4 days
before
the due
date.
ILL
materials
cannot
be
renewed
at the
circulation
desk.
What
does it
cost?
Although
the BCU
library
attempts
to
borrow
from
libraries
that do
not
charge,
the ILL
process
costs
the
library
an
average
of $17
per
requested
item.
However,
the
service
is free
to BCU
students
and
employees.
