Find an Article

Where do I start looking for articles?
I know the title of an article and the periodical. Where do I find it in full text?

  • Current print periodicals are located in the reading area on the 1st floor.
  • Current back issues are in the 1st floor stacks behind the reference books.
  • Older issues as well as some microfilm are in the basement.
  • Microfiche and microfilm are located in the cabinets in the lobby.

Looking for articles

1. Online Databases

Online databases are purchased by the library. They index articles with bibliographic information, abstracts, and/or full text. The articles come from journals, magazines, newspapers, and trade publications, which require the articles to go through an editing process before publication. Most web sites do not subject posted information to an editing process before published online.

2. Search within a Periodical

Briar Cliff University Online and Print Holdings You can search by periodical title, browse by title, or browse by subject. The library owns the periodicals listed in a physical format or in a digital format through an online database.

Clicking on a link will take you to the periodical in a database where you can search the periodical or browse the issues. When browsing an issue, all the articles within the issue will be listed either alphabetically by title or numerically by page number.

Online Databases Specific periodicals can also be searched in individual databases. However, each database does not index the same periodicals. For example, a periodical in Academic Search Elite may not appear in ProQuest Research Library. Also the periodicals may have no full text.

4. Finally, if you cannot find the article and do not need the article in 10-14 days, complete an interlibrary loan form.
