Briar Cliff University Department of Nursing has three options to attain
the Bachelor of Science in Nursing (B.S.N.) degree:
- BASIC B.S.N. OPTION: Students who are not already registered nurses
may elect to enroll at Briar Cliff for the entire four-year basic B.S.N.
program leading to eligibility to take the registered nursing licensure
exam.

- L.P.N.-B.S.N. OPTION: L.P.N.s with an active license can pursue a
program of studies leading to a B.S.N. and complete it within three
additional years.
- R.N.-B.S.N. OPTION: Registered nurses may pursue a program of
studies leading to a B.S.N.
With each option the nursing major is directed toward:
- Providing a foundation for continued learning, for integration of
new knowledge into practice, and for graduate education in nursing.
- Preparing nurses who will independently and interdependently
promote, restore, and maintain the health of client systems in a variety
of health care settings.
Developing nurses who will participate in decision making designed to
improve health care delivery in a rapidly changing society and complex
health care system.
- Fostering holistic personal and professional development.
Briar Cliff offers the following options:
(1) Basic Option 4 or 5 year BSN program for persons who do not currently
hold a nursing license
(2) LPN-BSN Option in either a 1+3 or 1+4 format that allows LPNs to finish
their BSN in three or four additional years
(3) RN-BSN Option, for RNs licensed in the state of Iowa or a state in the
interstate compact, that can be completed in 1 to 6 years
(4) MSN program with Family Nurse Practitioner and Nurse Educator Specialty
tracks.
Cooperative and Articulating Programs
The Department of Nursing offers a BSN program in cooperation with Little Priest Tribal College in
Winnebago, NE. This program allows students to complete their first two years
of course work at Little Priest Tribal College and then directly transfer into their
junior year at Briar Cliff University. Articulation agreements with the
University of South Dakota allow their ADN graduates to directly transfer
to Briar Cliff and earn their BSN in one - three additional years.
