Dr. Richard
Steinbach is
Professor of Music at
Briar Cliff University
where he teaches applied
piano, class piano, and
courses in music theory,
piano pedagogy, and
American music.
Dr. Steinbach has
performed extensively as
both soloist and
collaborative artist in
concerts throughout the
U.S., Canada, South
America, France, Italy,
Great Britain, New
Zealand, Japan, and
China.
As
the grand prizewinner in
the 1995 France Piano
International
Competition in Paris,
Dr. Steinbach performed
his solo debut recital
at the Salle Cortot in
Paris in January of
1996. The
Gazetta del Mezzogiorno
(Bari, Italy) described
Steinbach’s performance
as “Sonorous
expressivity, exemplary
clarity and insightful
sensitivity…” Throughout
his career, he has
collaborated with such
prestigious
international artists as
violinist Charles
Castleman, cellist
Nathaniel Rosen,
flautists Michel
Bellavance and Philippa
Davies and pianist
Emanuele Arciuli.
Steinbach has appeared
as soloist with the
Southern Mississippi
Symphony, the Sioux City
Symphony and the
Orquesta Sinfónica
Nacional de Peru.
Since 1997, Dr.
Steinbach has joined
forces with
pianist/composer Howard
Helvey to present Duo
Piano concerts
throughout the U.S. and
abroad.
Dr.
Steinbach holds degrees
in piano performance
from the University of
Colorado, the Eastman
School of Music, and the
Doctor of Musical Arts
degree from the
University of Iowa.
Post-doctoral work
includes study and
master classes with
Dominique Merlet, Noel
Lee, Roy Howat, Pascal
Devoyon, Dorothy Taubman
and John Bloomfield.
He has released two solo
recordings on the
Towerhill label, a Piano
Duo recording with
Howard Helvey and a CD
of new American works
for voice and piano with
soprano Diana Guhin
Wooley. Dr.
Steinbach is represented
by Truckenbrod Concert
